Since Pop’s training to be an EMT, Mama pulled down Grandpa’s medical bag (alligator skin) to give him some supplies. Pop took the stethoscope and left the rest, which Mama decided to go through. It was really interesting seeing what was considered lifesaving and cutting edge at the time. There were eye patches.
And in the tangential way that Mama and I talk, she told me about the rabbit test for pregnant women (wikipedia it, fools). First of all it was gross because Grandpa used to bring her and her friends in to see the procedure and surgery done on the rabbits. But it was also gross because Grandpa would stitch up the rabbits after their hysterectomies and bring them home as pets. The good part about lab rabbits as pets? Mama didn’t have to worry about them going at it like…well…you know.
